National Dress Up Your Pet Day

January 14 is National Dress Up Your Pet Day! This annual celebration encourages pet owners to dress up their canine companions or feline friends. Pet owners can dress themselves and their dog in matching outfits or give the pet a completely interesting look. It all depends on what the animal feels comfortable in and what strikes the fancy of the pet owner. If you’re a fan of placing your dog or cat in human-like clothing, then celebrate this holiday and show off your style!

Amazing Facts About Pets

Since we’re talking about a holiday in which people dress up their pets, we thought that it would be nice if we included some amazing facts about pets in this holiday entry:

  • Dalmatians are born without any spots at all. They don’t get their first spots until they’re a week old.

  • The world’s fastest dogs are greyhounds. They can run up to 45 miles per hour.

  • Every dog has its own unique nose print and no two nose prints are alike.

  • A dog’s sense of smell is up to 1,000 times greater than a human being’s sense of smell.

  • Cats have 32 muscles in each ear.

  • Cats can produce over 100 vocalizations, but dogs can only produce about 10.

  • A newborn kangaroo is about the size of a lima bean.

  • Dogs not only keep cool by panting, but they also sweat through their footpads.

  • In 2016, pet owners spent over $2 billion on their pets.

  • Approximately 80 million U.S households have at least one pet.

  • Parrots are the fourth most popular pet in the United States.

Observing National Dress Up Your Pet Day

This holiday can be observed by dressing up your pet. You can simply throw an outfit on the animal, or you can take them to your pet groomer and have them groomed beforehand. No matter how you celebrate it, however, be sure to use the hashtag #NationalDressUpYourPetDay on your social media with a picture of your pet all dressed up.
