Pet ID Week

It’s national pet ID week. Pet ID is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of our furry companions.

This week is about ensuring your furry companions are safe and well-protected. Approximately one of every three pets will become lost at some point in their lifetime, and it's heartbreaking to think of our beloved pets wandering alone and scared. The good news is Wise & Wonderful Integrative Veterinary Center can help prevent this from happening with proper identification.

Equipping your pets with ID tags and microchips can significantly increase the likelihood of a safe return if they ever wander away from home. Proper identification is essential since pets brought to animal shelters without proper ID tags are much less likely to be reunited with their family. As a responsible pet owner, taking all necessary measures to protect your furry companion is essential.

Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe:

  • Ensure your pet wears a collar with a current ID tag, rabies tag, and city/county license (where applicable);

  • All ID tags should include a contact name, address, and phone number;

  • Keep your pet's licenses, ID tags, and microchips current;

  • If you're planning to travel, put a temporary tag on your pet with the contact information of someone who can reach you; and

  • Even if your cats never go outside, it's still a good idea to tag them – they could accidentally slip through an open door and quickly become lost in the neighborhood.

For added security, consider having your pet microchipped. Microchipping provides extra protection if your pet's collar and tag fall off or are removed. Nearly all animal shelters nationwide routinely scan every animal upon intake for the presence of a microchip. Ask our Wise & Wonderful Integrative Veterinary Center care team about microchipping and global chip registration.

Remember, losing a pet can be a devastating experience. But, by ensuring that your pets have proper identification, you can rest easy knowing that they're more likely to find their way home. So, please take the necessary steps to protect your furry companions and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing they're safe.
