Wise & Wonderful Integrative Veterinary Center is proud to continue in the tradition of Coddingtown Veterinary Clinic (name changed September 2018 with the same team and the same spirit preserved). Wise and Wonderful Integrative Veterinary Center, has served the wonderful pet owners of Santa Rosa and Northern CA since 1968. Our practice is integrative, combining Eastern and Western Allopathic Medicine (internal medicine, surgery, vaccinations, dentistry, grooming, hospitalization, flea and heartworm control, in house and reference laboratory diagnostic testing, prescription medications, radiology services including x-rays and ultrasound exams) and Eastern Holistic Medicine (acupuncture, five element theory, traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, herbal prescriptions, and nutritional therapy).

We also offer cutting-edge alternative and non-pharmaceutical therapies such as laser therapy and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (“PEMF”). Our outstanding staff is ready to answer your questions, and doctor’s appointments are available Monday through Friday.

  • Alan Power-Lum, DVM, PhD, CVA

    Veterinarian & Owner

    Alan grew up in Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland, with a love of the natural world that surrounded his small town. His passions led him to Bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in marine zoology from the National University of Ireland in Galway.

    He enjoyed a fulfilling 10-year career as a marine biologist with the University of Georgia’s Marine Extension Service in Savannah, before pursuing a degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. After graduation he moved to Washington, D.C., to complete an internship at Friendship Animal Hospital, a specialty small animal practice. He then practiced at CityPaws Animal Hospital in Washington D.C. for six years before moving to California.

    While pursuing Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and Acupuncture training at the Chi University, he became acquainted with Wise & Wonderful. He was enthused by their commitment to “fear-free” and integrative medicine, ultimately leading to the purchase of the practice.

    Alan’s husband manages the practice, assisted by Fergus and Vinny, French Bulldogs with extensive and opinionated vocabularies and unparalleled passions for balls and singing.

  • Ruben Quiñonez, DC

    Veterinary Chiropractor

    Dr. Ruben Quiñonez pursued veterinary chiropractic care for one reason: the impact this kind of treatment had on his own dog, Rajah, during the final years of her life. Rajah suffered from degenerative myelopathy, a spinal cord disease similar to ALS—also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—in humans. The way that only a month of chiropractic adjustments improved Rajah’s quality of life, returning her to the happy, energetic, and loveable dog that she had always been, made a permanent impression on Dr. Quiñonez. He knew that he wanted to help others’ pets in the exact same way!

    Dr. Quiñonez grew up in Fort Bragg, California until graduating from high school, when he moved to Santa Rosa to attend junior college. He attended human chiropractic school at Palmer West College of Chiropractic, completing his externship with an animal chiropractor as he finished up school. Next, Dr. Quiñonez attended Options for Animals College to study veterinary chiropractic, graduating six months later and becoming certified through the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association.

    Dr. Quiñonez couldn’t be happier to serve the pets and animal owners of the area with his skills—he loves helping pets with a drug-free, hands-on approach, and he always finds it extremely rewarding to benefit an animal who can’t necessarily verbalize their pain or discomfort.

    When he’s not at work, Dr. Quiñonez enjoys spending quality time with his family and girlfriend (a chiropractor in the human healthcare world!), and working on training and agility with his energetic Boxer, Cassius. Together, Dr. Quiñonez and Cassius hope to enter dog sporting competitions very soon and win multiple titles!

  • Felicia "Flea"

    Head Veterinary Technician

    Flea started out volunteering in animal-assisted therapy when she was 13. Visiting hospitals and working with disabled children showed Flea the profound and healing connection between animals and people. She continued to follow her passion, working as a pet dog trainer and running puppy kindergarten classes.

    Flea has been working in the veterinary field since 2006, joining Wise and Wonderful in 2012. She is dedicated to expanding her knowledge in medicine and forwarding the bond between people and animals. Working at Wise and Wonderful has allowed her to work closely with the community. As part of an exceptional veterinary team, Flea takes pride in empowering pet owners to help their companions enjoy longer, healthier lives.

    Flea is an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional.

  • Richard

    Practice Manager

    Richard is the proud dog dad of the Frenchie duo Fergus and Vincenzo. His support of fear-free practices and integrative medicine began when his Boxer Lulah was diagnosed with brain cancer with a limited prognosis. While recognizing allopathic medical treatment was in the best interest of extending Lulah's life, Richard and Dr. Power opted for combining radiation therapy with integrative modalities to alleviate the side effects of her rigorous treatment; she lived for many more years!

    When not assisting his husband, Dr. Power, and the doctors and staff of Wise and Wonderful provide the best healthcare to our patients, Richard provides support to the practice’s clients, often facing difficult situations with elderly and ill companions.

    Richard is an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional.

  • Megan

    Office Manager

    Megan manages the front end of the clinic, and can, at any given moment, be seen stocking the hospital, answering phones, assisting in exam rooms, or scheduling patients. She wears many hats and is always busy! In her spare time, Megan enjoys painting and gardening along with riding her Peloton. She has an orange tabby named Frankie and they love to go on adventures together. She truly loves that her work allows her to combine her lifelong passion for animals with contributing to their well-being every day.

    Megan is a Level 3 Fear Free Certified Professional.

  • Amanda

    Veterinary Technician

    Amanda has always had a love for animals since childhood. Growing up, Amanda raised rabbits, chickens, ducks, and sheep. She worked with service and companion animals before starting her career in veterinary medicine in 2013. In her free time Amanda loves going on adventures with her son! They can often be found looking for critters in the woods, trying to spot fish in the lake, or chasing waves on the beach. Amanda rejoined Wise and Wonderful after returning to the area in 2024 and is excited to continue to pursue her passion for animal care.

  • Rebecca

    Veterinary Assistant

    Rebecca has always felt a calling to work hands-on with animals in the veterinary field. Working as a professional dog walker, in veterinary clinics, and at veterinary compounding pharmacies, she applies her veterinary knowledge and compassion to our patients and their human companions. Rebecca joined Wise & Wonderful in 2020 as a receptionist. She soon jumped at the opportunity to become a veterinary assistant, helping improve the quality of life of every patient and their owners. 

    Rebecca is committed to Wise & Wonderful’s Fear Free practices and philosophy and feels honored to provide empathy and care to help pets live healthier lives for as long as possible.

    Rebecca is a Level 3 Fear Free Certified Professional.

  • Viviana

    Receptionist

    Viviana Moved from Daily City in 1994 and has called Larkfield her home ever since. Her passion for animals started when her family adopted their first border collie, Zorro. Working in the veterinary industry, Viviana has expanded her interests to all cats and dogs and even some exotics. Since joining Wise and Wonderful, Viviana has learned a lot about integrative medicine and enthusiastically helps clients and their pets to stay healthy and fit. As a receptionist with Wise and Wonderful, Viviana is now a Fear Free 3 Certified Professional and is working towards completing her certifications to become Fear Free Elite certified. Outside of Wise and Wonderful, Viviana likes to stay physically fit, spending time outdoors and spending quality time with her family and friends.

    Viviana is a Fear Free Level 3 Certified Professional.
